A Review of Pest Control in Rochdale, Oldham, Middleton and Bury Spring & Summer 2010

Pest Control in Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire has seen a brisk start this year which is somewhat surprising given the somewhat cold (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.

Pest and Vermin controllers were kept occupied with the usual town centre rodent infestations all thoughout the winter of 2009/10, but the relatively cold early spring has already brought some ant problems coming in.

The damp summers of 2008 and 2009 were not to the benefit of the hymenoptera (sawflies, wasps, ants & bees) but 2010 looks like it will turn out to be a hectic year for ant problems.

Usually ants nest under the floors of houses and inside cavity walls causing a large number of foraging ants to visit food store areas.

However it is at the mating time when they are at their most annoying as they create winged males and winged queens which then mate on the wing.

The release of thousands of these winged ants inside your house can be horrific in the extreme.

A relatively new pest was especially numerous in the the North West area last season, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).

It was unusual for pest operatives in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester to meet these pests until recently but they seemed to appear from nowhere in recent years and already this year has seen sightings of these beetles in unprecedented numbers.

Having a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears devour natural fibres and can do great damage to carpets and all fabrics. They can be a difficult and tricky pest to get rid of.

Those involved in pest control note that Bed Bugs are carrying on their return in the Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire area, regularly arriving as unwanted guests in the suitcases of home-coming holiday makers.

Very often the initial reaction of unfortunate people who realise that they are infested with these revolting,blood-sucking insects is to burn the infested beds and purchase.

This is often a costly error as despite their name bed bugs not only live in beds and in an infested bedroom will be found everywhere within about five metres of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical wall sockets and the new beds are instantly re-infested.

Most people mix up bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both take a different form of pest control.

They dine only on blood which they drink from their sleeping hosts. People usually associate bed bugs with unhygienic living conditions but nothing could be less accurate, they do not need grime, their food is you!

Up to April 30th 2010 Trafford & Manchester Pest Control are offering a twenty-five percent reduction on their guaranteed ant treatment.

The brand new treatment which is guaranteed for three years, extendable indefinitely in additional three year chunks by a simple re-treatment every 3 years, can be carried out on most properties subject to satisfactory free site survey
