Goodbye Tax Evasion
Plumbers, gas fitters and heating engineers, who often get paid cash in hand, are the latest to be tapped up by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as it tries to flush out tax evasions. We all have to pay tax says Jonathan at Plumbers Manchester Co.
Under the terms of the amnesty, untaxed income declared before May 231, 2011 will only be subject to penalties of 10% of the tax due, where the error was unintentional, instead of standard penalties up to 100% plus the risk of prosecution. However, deliberate evasion may still be subject to 20% penalties under the terms of the new HMRC offer, which is officially known as the Plumbers’ Tax Safe Plan. We’d all do well to stay within the realms of the law sasy Jonathan at Plumbers Manchester Co.
Any tax due – plus outstanding interest and penalties – must still be paid by August 3, 2011. The Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors (APHC) has welcomed HMRC’s crackdown on those companies and individuals in the industry who are not meeting their tax and regulatory obligations.
Rick Crees, who has an interim role at APHC, said “This is a real opportunity to level the playing field. “However, our members – and any plumber, gas installer or heating engineer who works according to the law – have nothing to fear from the HMRC’s campaign.“Members join APHC to mark themselves out as conscientious skilled and respectable tradesmen. “In fact, I would encourage companies and individuals who are operating fairly to inform HMRC about those who are not.”
They must remember that these people are taking work away from honest companies, could be ripping off customers and could be putting lives in danger.”
