P90X Workout Equipment – What Do You Really Need to Do the P90X Workout?

P90X Workout Equipment – What Do You Really Need to Do the P90X Workout?

What is the required P90X workout equipment? Here’s a little background information.

Tony Horton, the creator of the Beach Body P90X workout program has put together 12 different workouts that can be easily performed in your home with only a few pieces of equipment. You will not have to buy into a pricey Bio Force TNT or other gym equipment. Yet you will still be able to reach that fit body that you’ve been trying to find.

What makes P90X different than most other in-home workouts is that Tony Horton utilizes the muscle confusion principle. This is probably the first home workout advertised on an infomercial that has introduced America and for that matter the world, to this valid training protocol.

These 12 videos take you through a 12 week or 90 day program to get a lean and ripped body. Believe it or not, it does work!

All you need to get a great workout is some P90X workout equipment, here’s what you’ll need:

*Tough, high quality resistance bands

- Chin up bar

* Push up stands or a perfect push-up

In place of the resistance bands, you can purchase a set of dumbbells. Unfortunately, you will have to buy multiple sets unless you want to be changing plates. You can purchase the Bowflex Select Tech Dumbbells, but they are not cheap!

The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells for example offers resistance from 5 pounds to 52.5 pounds, and they will run you $399. On the other hand, a set of Bodylastics Terrel Owens resistance bands offer 5 pounds to 249 pounds of resistance. For less than $100 and it has a lifetime defects warranty.

So whats the the best P90X needed equipment?

I personally prefer resistance bands, not only because of the lower price, but because they are portable, adaptable and more versatile than the set of dumbbells. In the event that resistance bands are more up your alley… Either the Golds Gym Resistance Bands or the Bodylastics Home Gym will meet all your needs. Of the two the Bodylastics offers more options.

Now, let’s take a look at what type of chin up bar is required in the power 90 extreme workout program… you have a lot to work with in terms of alternatives. One possibility is to use resistance bands with pull downs in place of chin-ups or pull-ups. Alternatively, you can buy a $20 doorway chin up bar. As you can see, it’s very cost-effective. And it beats the $50 P90X chinups product they sell by a long road.

What about those push-ups – will you really need to use the stands or a set of perfect push-ups? Well, they are nice to have but are not necessary to complete this 90 day workout. Hey, you want to truth don’t you? Both of these items will reduce the strain on your wrists and allow you to go deeper in your push-ups on the other hand, you can do push-ups between two chairs and get the same results. The nice thing about the perfect push-up and the stands are that they’re both relatively cheap and you should be able to find a set for $30 or less.

The incredible part is, that utilizing this type of equipment into your muscle confusion workouts makes complete sense from a space and money standpoint.

And that’s really all the equipment you’ll need for a P90X workout, though if you’re working on a hard surface, you may also want to add a floor mat to the list.
