What job in real estate do you recommend for a person right out of college?
fxlrner asked:
I’m graduating college next year and I’m looking for a career in real estate. I was thinking of going either the appraiser or agent route. Which do you guys recommend?

Start as an office clerk/receptionist to get to know the language and your town . Take the sales agent test and in one year if you make friends fast you might survive on a commission base. If your uncle is a real estate developer or general contractor it will come in handy.

You know - last week I would have told you to stay as far away from real estate as possible for a career, but — recently the investors have come back into the market and I see a turn-a-round quicker than I originally thought. I think we’re in for a real estate boom in the next two years - so get in - get your feet wet - get as MUCH education as possible in the real estate field (GRI, ABR, SRES, CRS etc.) and go for your Broker’s license.
Last month I was depressed about where we were headed, but now I’m extremely excited!

I have been a Realtor for 17 years, if I was to start all over again I would be a Mortgage Banker. More money, less work free for the weekends.
Good luck greenie!

I have been a local agent and trainer for 15 years. I suggest you consider becoming an agent or a mortgage originator. The challenge you will face is getting the proper training. That is one area where the industry struggles. I know of two agents currently in the market who are both very successful. One of them was a part time agent for 3 years while attending Coastal, he made around $40,000 per year while still in school. It is very possible to achieve great success quick if you have the right mentor and training program. Best of luck to you.

Ok, …you are graduating college…which means you have bills to pay (student loans)… now a realtor makes about 6% on a house. This means that in order for me to make $3,600 the house I am working with needs to be worth $60,000.
Now, I am what is called a wholesaler and have made 4000 on a house that was selling for $5,000 and I have made $20,000 on a house that was selling for $80,000.
And I don’t have to drive people around the city either and deal with their crying children and indecision.
If you would like to know more about wholesaling real estate, email me.
